The state of West Bengal is extremely famous for its folk songs, which showcase the culture and traditions of the Bengali people. An extraordinary tradition of the Bangla folk music is the baul tradition. Bauls are the folk singers of rural Bengal, who stroll from village to village singing their songs and their livelihood primarily depends upon common people's support.

In addition to folk music, people of Bengal are closely associated with Rabindra Sangeet, which shows a fusion of western and Indian classical music traditions. Rising film industry in the state is also helping in popularizing film songs as well as other forms of music. Films have always been very musical like any other Indian Movies in other languages .Though the Bengali films releasing every week is less in the number than the Hindi and Tamil films, the songs are quite popular among audiences.
