Mohiner Ghoraguli was one of the famous Bengali music groups from Kolkata. Their music was the fusion of wide variety of genres influenced by the Baul and folk traditions of Bangla as well as rock. They were active in the years 1976—1981 and 1995—1999. The name of the group was taken from the poem of Jibanananda Das called as 'Ghora'. Bhoomi – The Bangla Band
Bhoomi is the Bangla Band which was formed in 1999 that aimed to revive the folk music culture of Bengal. It has played a great role in making folk music popular among the common Bengali audience by including the urban touch in their music. The band was formed by Surojit Chatterjee and Soumitra Roy initially when they foucused on fusion of traditional Bengali Folk music and Western music. It has won several awards including Best Bangla Band twice from Bangla Sangeet Prachar Samity, Smt. Bijoya Chakraborty Smrity Purashkar award, Sangeet Utsa Sanman, etc.
The experiments of Surojit Chatterjee and Soumitro Ray with folk music resulted in the formation of the Bhoomi that symbolises Earth.
